World Poker Tour

The World Poker Tour made its debut on the Travel Channel in March of 2003 by WPT Enterprises. The two hour episodes would feature the action, strategy, and gameplay of the top professionals in Texas Hold'em tournaments around the world. Tiny cameras would capture the two Texas Hold'em hole cards for the television audience to see, and then the table action would unfold. The television audience would be able to experience real, top-level poker playing tactics and strategies! The World Poker Tour also displayed relevant statistics and odds of winning. The action at the final table would be the main focus of the two hour show, but interesting events that happened along the way, as well as an informative overview of the exotic locales of the poker tournaments would be televised. The information on the various locations of the World Poker Tour tournaments are delivered by the beautiful hostess, Shana Hiatt (visit Shana Hiatt.org!), while the poker play-by-plays are announced by former world champion, Mike Sexton, and Hollywood home game regular, Vince Van patten.

The World Poker Tour was a smash hit for the Travel Channel, drawing record ratings and contributing to the poker boom, both in the online and traditional poker rooms.

Inidividual episodes during the first World Poker Tour season drew an average of 618,00 households on their first airings, and the second season substantially surpassed those numbers, drawing an average of 911,000 households. The World Poker Tour is the highest-rated series for the Travel Channel, and one of the episodes is the highest rated show in the history of the Travel Channel. In 2005, the World Poker Tour is now in its fourth season, and the WPT continues to perform strongly.

In February of 2004, NBC aired a special World Poker Tour episode, "WPT Battle of Champions" during the pre-game Super Bowl time period. The World Poker Tour episode became the highest rated program in NBC's history during this pre-game Super Bowl time slot.
